Frankenstein Walker Cover for The Progressive

Cover for the current issue of The Progressive, for a piece on the campaign to recall Wisconsin's Governor Scott Walker. The Progressive had already done one cover on this topic in the last few months, so this one focused on the risk if Walker doesn't get recalled - the risk to unions, specifically. After sending in a bunch of sketches, they chose my favorite, Scott Walker as a Frankenstein monster, attacking union picketers. At first I painted his face angry and threatening, but it just didn't have that hapless, goofy expression he always has on his mug, so I repainted it with his true-to-life doofus expression. Funny how someone who looks so dopey and ineffectual can be such a vicious and dangerous bastid.

Animation: Romney Plays the VP Vetting Game

From the Political capitol of the world it’s the Vetting Game! Introducing the star of the show, the Chooser-in-Chief, Mitt Romney!

From manipulating the truth to groveling before the Koch Brothers, our three contestants are masters of political pandering! And heeeeeere they are!

Contestant number one is the darling of the Let-Them-Eat-Cake crowd, and has never seen a tax break he didn’t want to give to the rich, from the embattled state of Wisconsin, here’s Paul Ryan.

Contestant number two is a pugnacious politician who doesn’t take orders from anyone who earns less than a million a year, the big little man that corporations call their own, here’s everybody’s favorite bully, Chris Christie.

Contestant number three is Hispanic, a tea party favorite and hails from a swing state; what more need be said? Did I mention he’s Hispanic? Here he is, Florida’s son of fake exiles from Castro’s Cuba, Marco Rubio!

Gentlemen, let’s start the show!

Robert Caro for The Wall Street Journal

This was a very fast turnaround for The Wall Street Journal on Friday (just a couple of hours, which I always like for some crazy reason), but I was especially happy to do this portrait of Robert Caro, since I've read and enjoyed a couple of his books. Here's a link to the interview.

For The Nation: Breivik's Monstrous Dream

These were the sketches for this week's Nation, a portrait of Norway's right wing lunatic mass murderer, Anders Behring Breivik, to accompany an excellent article written by Moustafa Bayoumi. I sent them the two below for final art, I'm not sure which they chose to run...
