I’m re-posting this animation I made one year ago about the radical Republican war on women. Given what the Susan G. Komen foundation did this week in cutting its grants to Planned Parenthood, it's clear we have to step up our defense against this disgusting assault

Apparently, due to internet outrage, Susan G. Komen returned its funding to Planned Parenthood. So that's good news! I'm actually more excited about the clear ability of the mass public with decent internet connections to make a big enough fit to force change. Even if it's for things like getting Bank of America not to add fees to their debit cards, or not letting Verizon charge a 'convenience fee' for paying online, or getting Susan G. Komen scared shitless enough to keep doing the right thing... It's a strange and awesome time we're living in right now and I'm glad to be on this ride.
ReplyDeleteNow if only the internet could make the Catholic church realize that forcing all providers to offer identical insurance, including birth control, is NOT identical to FORCING people to take the darned stuff. If there are people who receive health insurance from the church that want to use birth control despite the church's teachings... I've got a feeling they're already doing so, despite not previously having the option of a copay. And anyway, aren't God's followers supposed to be able to say no to temptation? How little faith must the church have in its people? This is all pretty freakin' stupid.
Wow though, can't believe it's been a year since you made this. Time flies.
Yes, the fast action of people expressing their outrage over Komen's right wing move is impressive. I'm working on a cartoon now about Komen's "pink washing". I never gave money to Komen, but after the way Komen acted I WILL be giving dough to Planned Parenthood.
DeleteAnd I agree completely about the Catholic church/health insurance issue. You said it perfectly! Brava, Kat! It's great to get your take on these issues.
